A Waldorf Astoria Experience

When we arrived at the desk he said to her: "Casey would you please assist the gentleman in remaking his room key and then escort him to the room? In fact, here is the master key in case you need it to open the door."

Pleased with the kind offer but not wanting to disturb anyone I responded: "Thank you kindly but that won't be necessary". The gentleman insisted and two minutes later Casey escorted me to the 15th floor to ensure that my room key worked and I was satisfied with the service and attention.

During the elevator ride I asked Casey the name of the gentleman who had kindly assisted me, she informed me that his name was Eric Long the General Manager. WOW! I was really impressed! I had been assisted face to face by the General Manager of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. What an example that Mr. Long is setting for his staff.

When I realized that I Mr. Long had personally taken care to genuinely fulfill my request, I remembered Mr. Elvis Taylor, the General Manager at the Beacon Hotel South Beach. Mr. Taylor spends every day at least one hour greeting the Beacon Hotel guests at the door and offering his assistance - he teaches by example to genuinely care for each guest of the Beacon Hotel. 

I have worked in hospitality for over seven years (five with Mr. Taylor) and I have heard him speak many times about what it is like to deliver genuine service. I have attended Customer Relationship Management Courses, read books about service, and attended seminars. However, Mr. Long's personal attention left a lasting impression on me. The receiving end of genuine service feels great!

For those of us that work at the Beacon Hotel South Beach I hope that this story serves as inspiration to continue to find ways to care for our guests genuinely. For those of you who are former, current, or future guests of the Beacon Hotel South Beach, I hope that you too can soon experience the receiving end in an act of genuine service at the Beacon Hotel South Beach.

Earth Hour Miami

Join the Beacon Hotel in supporting Earth Hour on Saturday March 28, 2009 from 8:30 pm to 9:30pm. The Beacon will turn off the external neon lights and will encourage all guests to participate in Earth Hour.

On Saturday, March 28, 2009 from 8:30 to 9:30 pm, the City of Miami invites residents, businesses and neighbors to voluntarily switch off their lights in support of Earth Hour, a global event that makes a powerful statement on climate change. Across the world, from Miami to San Francisco, Bangkok to Sydney, Tel Aviv to Copenhagen, cities are seizing this opportunity to demonstrate how we can all work together to make a positive impact in the fight against this global issue.

City of Miami Mayor Manuel A. Diaz encourages you to join him for this historic event by pledging to turn off all non-essential lights on March 28th at 8:30pm. "Earth Hour is just one step we can make to support environmental sustainability across the City," says Mayor Diaz, "it is a call to action on climate change and a more sustainable Miami."

The Earth Hour initiative is part of Mayor Diaz’s Green Agenda, which includes an aggressive push to reduce the City’s greenhouse gas emissions, promotion of green buildings,, energy efficiency upgrades to city buildings, implementation of a Tree Master Plan to increase the city’s tree canopy to 30%, and other environmental initiatives.

Employee of the Year 2008 Celebration

The staff of the Beacon Hotel South Beach held the yearly Employee of the Year celebration. After a great year of consistent performance from employees in all departments including front desk, housekeeping, and maintenance a winner and two runner ups were chosen. Below are the results:

Our staff is delighted to congratulate our winners and all the other employees of the Beacon Hotel South Beach who work hard every day to deliver five diamonds service to our guests year round.
