Earth Hour Miami

Join the Beacon Hotel in supporting Earth Hour on Saturday March 28, 2009 from 8:30 pm to 9:30pm. The Beacon will turn off the external neon lights and will encourage all guests to participate in Earth Hour.

On Saturday, March 28, 2009 from 8:30 to 9:30 pm, the City of Miami invites residents, businesses and neighbors to voluntarily switch off their lights in support of Earth Hour, a global event that makes a powerful statement on climate change. Across the world, from Miami to San Francisco, Bangkok to Sydney, Tel Aviv to Copenhagen, cities are seizing this opportunity to demonstrate how we can all work together to make a positive impact in the fight against this global issue.

City of Miami Mayor Manuel A. Diaz encourages you to join him for this historic event by pledging to turn off all non-essential lights on March 28th at 8:30pm. "Earth Hour is just one step we can make to support environmental sustainability across the City," says Mayor Diaz, "it is a call to action on climate change and a more sustainable Miami."

The Earth Hour initiative is part of Mayor Diaz’s Green Agenda, which includes an aggressive push to reduce the City’s greenhouse gas emissions, promotion of green buildings,, energy efficiency upgrades to city buildings, implementation of a Tree Master Plan to increase the city’s tree canopy to 30%, and other environmental initiatives.

Employee of the Year 2008 Celebration

Miami Beach FL, Friday March 13, 2009

The staff of the Beacon Hotel South Beach held the yearly Employee of the Year celebration. After a great year of consistent performance from employees in all departments including front desk, housekeeping, and maintenance a winner and two runner ups were chosen. Below are the results:

Employee of the Year 2008: Marisa Gonzalez (Housekeeping Department)

Our staff is delighted to congratulate our winners and all the other employees of the Beacon Hotel South Beach who work hard every day to deliver five diamonds service to our guests year round. In addition to the award ceremony we all shared a special lunch and a celebration cake. Below are some photos of our party that we would like to share with all of you our guests and fans.

Miami Global Leadership Conference

Young Presidents Organization and World Presidents Organization (YPO-WPO) & Wine 2.0 are collaborating to bring to Miami the Global Leadership Conference (GLC)

This weekend March 11th – 15th right on South Beach.

Miami Beach, FL March 12, 2009

At the Beacon Hotel Miami Beach we like to keep our fans up-to-date on all the events that happen in South Beach. We usually do not miss one but this specific time although we researched, we could not find out why Lummus Park was closed off and event staff were setting up for an outdoor party right on the sands of SOBE. Curious, we searched on-line, thorough our contacts, and still no-one gave us concrete information.

Thus, we decided to go ourselves and investigate. As we walked we videotaped our journey in which we discovered a dance team practicing on state, beautiful set up of tables and decorations, and eventually the door security guard informed us that this was a private corporate event. We thought to ourselves... "Really? Which corporation is having a party on South Beach amidst all the corporate cutbacks currently going on?"...

We continued to ask and finally one of the cooks working behind the scenes informed us that the event will be held Saturday night between 7 pm - 9 pm with over 2,000 attendees who will be celebrating the Global Leadership Conference of the Young Presidents and World Presidents Organization. It will be a private event thus we probably will not be allowed in, however, if we do our cameras will be with us and you our Beacon fans will be able to see the live footage.
